Megan "Meg" McCarthy, Ph.D., PLMHP
Therapist
Megan "Meg" McCarthy, Ph.D., PLMHP, is a compassionate, trauma-informed therapist providing telehealth services to clients throughout Nebraska. She has been practicing in the mental health field since 2014 and brings more than a decade of clinical experience working with children and adolescents ages five and older as well as adults across a variety of clinical settings. Meg offers a collaborative and supportive approach that helps clients navigate life's challenges while building meaningful and lasting change. She is committed to creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered to explore their experiences without judgment. While she holds a Ph.D. in psychology, she practices as a Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (PLMHP) in Nebraska.
Meg has extensive experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, emotional dysregulation, life transitions, relationship challenges, and complex family or systemic stressors. She is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed care and integrates these approaches to help clients better understand their emotions, strengthen coping skills, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop greater self-compassion. Her therapeutic style combines evidence-based interventions with warmth, curiosity, and genuine respect for each person's unique story.
A significant area of Meg's clinical focus is working with neurodivergent individuals, including adolescents and adults with ADHD, autism, learning differences, and related emotional or behavioral concerns. She considers herself a neurodivergent-affirming provider and strives to create a space where clients can better understand themselves without pressure to mask, minimize, or change who they are. Her approach emphasizes practical strategies, self-acceptance, nervous system awareness, and individualized support that fits each client's real-life needs and goals.
Meg is also passionate about providing affirming care to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. She recognizes the importance of creating a therapeutic relationship that honors each client's identity, lived experiences, and personal values. Her goal is to help clients build resilience, develop confidence, and navigate challenges while feeling genuinely seen, understood, and supported.
Throughout her career, Meg has worked across a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient mental health, forensic services, correctional environments, assessment services, and community-based care. She has experience providing individual, family, and group therapy, developing DBT-informed programming, supporting crisis stabilization efforts, and collaborating with multidisciplinary treatment teams. These diverse experiences have strengthened her belief that effective therapy should be both clinically grounded and deeply human.
Meg currently provides telehealth services exclusively and enjoys helping clients access high-quality mental health care from the comfort and convenience of their own homes. In addition to individual therapy, she has a strong interest in developing virtual DBT skills groups for adults seeking additional support in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. She looks forward to helping clients throughout Nebraska build on their strengths, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful lives worth living.
